QEEG & Neurofeedback (NFB)

What is QEEG?

QEEG (quantitative electroencephalogram) is an assessment of the electrical activity of the brain (brainwaves) using a multi-electrode recording device connected to a computer. The electrical activity of the brain is directly connected to how we think, feel and act.

The recorded brain waves statistically are analyzed and compared with “normative” and “non-normative” databases. It is then converted into color maps, called “Brain Maps” that visually depict the electrical brain activity.

A brain map shows precisely how our brain affects our cognitive, executive, emotional and behavioral responses. It also offers insight into choosing more individualized nutrients and medications.

Based on the Brain Map, the physician and neurofeedback specialist decide the training protocols of neurofeedback sessions that best help for improvement and correction.

What is Neurofeedback?

The brain has an amazing ability to reprogram itself.  When it receives feedback on “right” and “wrong” electrical activities, the brain develops new circuits between neurons.

Neurofeedback measures and presents real-time feedback on patient’s brainwave activities like Delta, Theta, Alpha and Beta.

When brain activity changes in the direction desired by the neurofeedback protocol, a positive “reward”, typically in the form of a visual display and/or sound, is given to the patient.  When this process is repeated for multiple times, the brain experiences Neurofeedback training similar to how the body experiences a workout.

Neurofeedback is a non-drug and non-invasive therapy.  It is time-tested and very safe. Both the FDA and American Pediatrics Academy have endorsed Neurofeedback.

Neurofeedback Training Session

A typical neurofeedback session takes about 30 minutes. The requirement for the number of sessions varies from 20 to 40 based on the different conditions of each patient. For special conditions like Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or Autism, it may take  more sessions to determine the benefits from neurofeedback training.

Conditions That Neurofeedback Helps
